Foundations of Music reaches more than 5,000 students in nearly 40 Chicago Public Schools.
In 2017-18, 979 students participated in weekly General Music classes or Songwriting/Production residencies, representing nearly 17,000 hours of music education.
Foundations of Music serves a student population which is over 94% low-income.
Pre- and post-assessments showed the number of students able to match pitch and perform a melody with 100% accuracy doubled. In addition, the number of students able to perform a rhythmic phrase with 100% accuracy doubled.
95% of Songwriting/Production students report they could use music production technology alone, or with limited help, and 100% of our Songwriting/Production students now have a copyrighted, original song in their name.
82% of classroom teachers surveyed reported that their students showed improvement in behavior, general demeanor, and attitude.
