Foundations of Music programs provide hands-on music education for children in Chicago. Using a research-based curriculum, teaching artists work with partner schools and communities to foster student connections to music, the arts and the world around them. Our programs ignite curiosity, develop skills, and promote social-emotional growth.
Foundations of Music teaching artists are professional musicians, performers, producers, writers, and educators with a combined total of over 100 years of teaching experience. They offer up-to-date, real-world experiences to their students, using standards-based curriculum maps to carefully craft sequential lessons. Through these experiences, we give children the opportunity to grow, learn and realize their full potential.
Our classes, which include General Music, Songwriting/Production, and Live Performance Programs, are all focused on providing children with a music education that they can take with them for years to come. In addition, each year, we award the Andrew Bird Scholarship to a promising and deserving ChiArts music student. Whether a child becomes a professional musician, a supporter of the arts, or is simply able to utilize skills gained in Foundations of Music class in life beyond school walls, the experiences in our classes are meant to have a lasting effect on every child’s life.
