Foundations of Music Begins a New Era with a New Leadership Team
As we prepare to celebrate Foundations of Music’s 30th Anniversary, we are making some exciting changes to our organization that we believe will bring focus and momentum to our mission of providing music for every child.
Our vision is to create a society where children of all means have access to music education and the opportunity to creatively express themselves through music. The steps we are taking today will make us better able to realize that vision by expanding our reach across the city and establishing a commitment to creative leadership within our own organization.
With that in mind, we are pleased to introduce our new Executive Director, Domonique Battle. Domonique comes to us with a wealth of experience, an infectious energy, and a deep commitment to Chicago students. Domonique is a proud Chicagoan, Chicago Public School parent and PTO president, and a passionate, results-oriented nonprofit leader (She is also a former CPS student, K-12th grade). Prior to joining Foundations of Music, she held various roles during her 10 years with City Year Chicago including AmeriCorps member, Program/Impact Director, and most recently Chief of Staff and Managing Director of People and Operations.
The addition of Domonique to the Foundations of Music executive team provides an important opportunity to strengthen our ties with the city of Chicago and CPS. In just the last 2 years, we have more than doubled the number of students we are reaching with direct instruction programs, and have been fortunate to have nearly 100% of our partners return each year. As we continue to devote more of our resources to creating sustained relationships with schools and students, Domonique's strong network in CPS will help us continue to find great partners for our programs and significantly expand our reach.
In addition to bringing on Domonique, Brenda Fineberg will be transitioning into the role of Creative Director. The expanded responsibilities of Brenda’s role will allow us to better evaluate the impact of our programs through research with higher education institutions, increase funding streams through grant writing and institutional partnerships, and define the strategic and artistic vision for the organization and our role within the Chicago arts community.
Working as a team, the passion, experience, and relationships that Domonique and Brenda bring to Foundations of Music will help us connect more and more students to music education, and bring us closer to a society where all children are inspired to engage in their communities and realize their full potential.
