NEW COMMUNITY PARTNERS
July 24, 2018
This summer, Foundations of Music is partnering with two community organizations to provide music programming.
The first is the RISE program, coordinated by the Frida Kahlo Community Organization, at Perez Elementary School. Students enrolled will spend approximately 14 hours working with our Songwriting/Production curriculum to create original music that will be used with their break dancing class. This is a unique opportunity for students to create an interdisciplinary arts project for performance that will be 100% student-driven and student-created.
At the Syrian Community Network summer program, we are offering both General Music and Songwriting/Production classes. At this community center, children of refugees receive support, particularly around literacy and acculturation. Our classes are held twice a week for five weeks at this site by a teaching artist with significant experience in literacy learning through music education. The curriculum was custom-designed to help achieve both of these learning goals in this specific population of students.
